With a holiday update released on December 13, the electric vehicle maker has introduced Steam into its cars’ software, nearly a year after Elon Musk envisioned a Valve-compatible Tesla.
In 2018, Elon Musk stated that his business is integrating stable Atari gameplay into its automobiles. Cuphead was playable in 2019, Fallout Shelter in 2020, and Musk claimed that the Tesla Model S and X in 2021 were PS5 on wheels.
The company’s holiday release for 2022 includes this incredible update (something it’s doing every December, with some notable enhancements each time). The only drawback is that it’s only offered for Model S and Model X vehicles from the model year 2022 or later (16GB RAM onboard).
For years, Tesla has worked to turn its vehicles into incredibly expensive, makeshift gaming consoles. According to the teaser video “Your Tesla is Now a Gaming Rig,” owners of eligible vehicles can access Steam through Tesla Arcade, link their accounts to their vehicles, and yes, play Cyberpunk, too.
